Clinic Trapper Guild

Clinic Day’s with Visalia Feral Cat Coalition and Valley Oak SPCA are a very special time where we can fix a large number of cats at a reduced price.  Our goal is to make this as easy on the cats as we can.  Our rules are for your safety and the cats.

Feral Clinic Day's with Valley Oak SPCA
Guild for Bringing in Cat

Congratulations, you are changing the life of a feral cat. The cat will be protected from diseases and not have kittens just to be born homeless and die. Our current fee is $30 for each feral/community cat spay or neuter.

We are asking you bring $30 in cash for each cat. You will be directed by our staff when you pull up with your cats on what to do.

PLEASE READ

Drop off time is 6:30 am at Valley Oak SPCA Spay Clinic located at 9405 West Goshen. You will be dropping the cats off in the BACK of the VOSPCA. Please have the cat in a trap, covered by a sheet or towel. If you get two cats in one trap, bring an extra trap for us to put the cat in after its operation.

Don’t trap before the day before clinic. Holding the cat is too stressful on the cat.  Once you have the cat it must be in a cool place until it’s released.  It will have no way of keeping cool/warm in this extreme weather if kept in the cage outside. Cats will be out later than normal when it’s hot so plan accordingly.

Cats in carriers will not be accepted. This is for the safety of our staff.

If the cat is ill, we reserve the right to euthanize it if it’s deemed by the veterinarian to be too sick for a spay or neuter. Normally in this situation the cat is tested for FIV and FeLV, if positive we would euthanize it, if negative we will give it a long-acting antibiotics. This is at no extra charge to the voucher user.

Pick up time varies; we will call you when the cat is done and awake. If the feral cat is not picked up in a timely manner, you will not be included in future VFCC events. By using our voucher, you are agreeing to let the cat recover in a cool place. The cats can’t regulate their body temperature after anesthetic and easily could die. We suggest placing the trap on a potty pad or clean towel under the trap. It can be changed easily to keep the cat and your floor clean. Please keep the cat in a quiet area and covered. You may be able to give the cat a small amount of water, but NO FOOD until it’s fully awake.

What’s Included:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • FVRCP vaccination
  • Rabies vaccination
  • Long-acting pain injection
  • Ear tip – Mandatory
  • Any minor medical the cat needs.

We only have limited spots and would like to help as many people as possible. Please do not make a reservation unless you are able to take the proper steps to trap a cat. If you are unable to trap a cat just don’t show up. We overbook just in case a few people don’t catch their cats. Spots are not transferable to another person

Tips for Trapping

  • Withhold food for 1-2 days prior to feeding (unless it’s a nursing mother or kitten).
  • Zip tie the trap open so it can’t close and feed the cats in it the days leading up to the trapping
  • Designate a cool spot to hold the cat before the spay/neuter in your home.
  • Use a food that will lure the cat to the trap, i.e. wet food or fish.
  • Patience: Catching a cat can take 15 minutes to a few hours. Please set aside time to trap the day before the surgery.

Trap setup

  • Be sure and put news paper or a pee pad on the bottom of the trap
  • Cover the trap with a cover to keep the cat calm
  • Use zip ties to reinforce the gate on the trap, if you don’t do this let the person checking you know so they can reinforce it before unloading the cat
  • If you have bowls in the cage from trapping don’t worry about them. We will remove them when we get the cat out.
